CattellHornCarroll abilities and cognitive tests: What we've learned from 20 years of research

چکیده
This article reviews factor-analytic research on individually administered intelligence tests from a CattellHornCarroll (CHC) perspective. Although most new and revised tests of intelligence are based, at least in part, on CHC theory, earlier versions generally were not. Our review suggests that whether or not they were based on CHC theory, the factors derived from both new and previous versions of most tests are well explained by the theory. Especially useful for understanding the theory and tests are cross-battery analyses using multiple measures from multiple instruments. There are issues that need further explanation, of course, about CHC theory and tests derived from that theory. We address a few of these issues including those related to comprehensionknowledge (Gc) and memory factors, as well as issues related to factor retention in factor analysis. Twenty years of donnerwheeler: what we've learned.
It has been 20 years since we launched donnerwheeler. Although our business began somewhat serendipitously, it has become an important part of who we are professionally and, we hope, an important part of the professional lives and careers of the thousands of nurses in Canada and abroad whom we have met along the way. As we stepped back to reflect and consider what 20 years of working together h...

Here we review around 20 years of experimental data that we have collected during tests of cognitive abilities of free-living, wild rufous hummingbirds Selasphorus rufus at their breeding grounds in southwestern Alberta. Because these birds are readily trained to feed from artificial flowers they have proved a useful system for testing cognitive abilities of an animal outside the box wherein an...
متن کاملThe Effectiveness of Cognitive Rehabilitation on Improving the Cognitive Abilities of the Elderly
Objectives The stagnation of mental activity in aging is associated with a decline in the function of all body systems, including cardiovascular, respiratory, genital, glandular, immune, and other organs. Cognitive disorders are also one of the most common problems in aging, which in turn exposes them at risk. Aging is associated with significant changes in memory, intelligence, perception, met...
متن کاملIs Education Associated With Improvements in General Cognitive Ability, or in Specific Skills?
Previous research has indicated that education influences cognitive development, but it is unclear what, precisely, is being improved. Here, we tested whether education is associated with cognitive test score improvements via domain-general effects on general cognitive ability (g), or via domain-specific effects on particular cognitive skills. We conducted structural equation modeling on data f...

OBJECTIVE Experimentally induced hypoglycemia in humans causes progressive but reversible cognitive dysfunction, but it is not known to what extent neuropsychological tests index abilities of cognitive functioning that are important in everyday life. This study examines the effects of acute insulin-induced hypoglycemia on attention and intelligence in nondiabetic humans. RESEARCH DESIGN AND M...
